About Frozen novelties, ice type, pop
An ice pop — also called a popsicle, ice lolly or freezer pop — is simply flavored, sweetened water frozen on a stick or in a tube. With no dairy or fat, it is the lightest of the frozen treats, valued on hot days for being cold, sweet and refreshing rather than for any nutrition.
It contains about 79 calories per 100 grams, essentially all from sugar: roughly 19 grams of carbohydrate, around 14 grams of it added sugar, with no fat, no protein and no fiber. Sodium is negligible. In short, an ice pop is frozen sugar-water — pleasant and low in calories by volume, but offering nothing nutritionally beyond the sweetness.
Ice pops are an easy, low-fat way to cool off, and because they are mostly water they are lighter than ice cream by volume. Sugar-free versions sweetened with low-calorie sweeteners cut the calories further, and homemade pops made from blended fruit or 100% juice add real vitamins.
