About Mangos, raw
The mango is the lush, golden tropical fruit often called the 'king of fruits' across South Asia, where it's been grown for thousands of years. Sweet, fragrant and faintly resinous, ripe mango has a soft, juicy flesh that's as good eaten straight off the stone as it is blended, in salsa, or over sticky rice.
It's one of the more sugar-rich fruits, which is part of what makes it so sweet, but that sugar comes packaged with plenty of vitamin C, a hefty dose of vitamin A (from beta-carotene), fiber, vitamin E and folate. The deep color of the flesh is a clue to those carotenoids.
A little more calorie-dense than a watery fruit like watermelon, mango is still a nutritious, naturally sweet treat — ripe when it gives slightly to a gentle squeeze and smells fragrant at the stem.
