About Oil, teaseed
Oil-seed camellia, also called the tea-oil camellia, is the plant behind tea seed oil (also known as camellia oil), a prized cooking oil pressed from its seeds and used for centuries across southern China and parts of East Asia. It should not be confused with tea tree oil, a medicinal essential oil from an entirely different plant that must never be swallowed. Tea seed oil is something else altogether: a clear, faintly sweet, golden cooking oil with a high smoke point that makes it excellent for stir-frying, sauteing, and deep-frying, as well as for finishing dishes and dressing vegetables.
It is rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, similar in profile to olive oil, along with vitamin E and natural antioxidants, which has earned it the nickname the olive oil of the East. Its mild flavor lets the taste of the food come through rather than dominating it. Choose cold-pressed or virgin versions for the fullest flavor, and store the bottle away from heat and light to keep it fresh.
