About Guanabana nectar, canned
Soursop, also called guanabana or graviola, is the large green tropical fruit of the Annona muricata tree, native to the warm Americas and grown across the tropics. Its spiny, leathery skin hides soft, creamy white flesh with a fragrant, custard-like texture and a sweet-tart flavor often compared to a blend of pineapple, banana, and strawberry. Soursop is a good source of vitamin C, fiber, potassium, and antioxidants, all while being low in fat.
Because the ripe flesh is so juicy and aromatic, it is most popular blended into refreshing juices, smoothies, aguas frescas, sorbets, and ice creams, and it is also eaten fresh by the spoonful once the inedible black seeds are removed. The fruit is ripe when it yields to gentle pressure, like a soft avocado. Choose firm fruit and let it soften at room temperature, then refrigerate the ripe soursop and use it quickly, since the tender flesh spoils within a couple of days.
